Iceland
Geologically young and active, the island nation of Iceland is home to many volcanoes, geysers, and geothermal hot spots. These renewable resources provide nearly all of the electricity for the second largest island in Europe.
Although the climate is relatively mild, considering Iceland’s proximity to the Arctic Circle, the biodiversity and human population are lower than average. In fact, Iceland is the least populated country in Europe. The people that do call Iceland home enjoy a ranking of first on the Global Peace Index, and Iceland also places high on the UN’s Human Development Index, with free healthcare and higher education for its citizens.
