Assessing Pain in Deaf Patients

September 9, 2014 — Assessing patients’ pain levels is already a difficult task for several reasons. Among them, people have varying pain thresholds and often use different descriptors when explaining their pain.

However, as this article from Clinical Pain Medicine points out, assessing pain in deaf patients is even more challenging. After conducting four, 90-minute focus groups, Sandra LeFort, RN, PhD, and her colleagues, came up with several helpful insights to increase accuracy in assessing pain levels of deaf patients.
