C.A.R.E. Channel Now Available in Digital Format
24-hour environmental media tool promotes healing through music & visual imagery
June 6, 2001 – The Continuous Ambient Relaxation Environment® (C.A.R.E.) Channel, environmental programming for patient television from Healing HealthCare Systems that promotes and enhances recovery, is now available in hard-disc digital format.
Introduced in 1992 in videotape (VHS) format, The C.A.R.E. Channel combines ambient nature images and appropriate music for 24-hour in-hospital broadcasts on closed circuit television. Hospitals in 30 states currently subscribe to The C.A.R.E. Channel, C.A.R.E. with Music instrumental only music programming, or C.A.R.E. on Hold for telephone systems.
The new hard-disc digital format for The C.A.R.E. Channel was developed by Allen Technologies of Burlingame, CA, the leading provider of interactive computer-based technology to hospitals. It is provided on a DVS-70, a custom file-server with two swappable hard-drives that hold up to 72-hours of programming scheduled with custom software. Programming updates are provided on a third swappable hard-drive. The audio specifications are CD-quality, allowing the DVS-70 to also serve as a music source for C.A.R.E. With Music, music-only programming for corridors and other public areas.
“As The C.A.R.E. Channel has become the cornerstone in the implementation of healing environments, we have sought to improve the delivery format without increasing costs to hospitals,” says Susan E. Mazer, president, Healing HealthCare Systems. “The new high capacity ATI digital system is less expensive, higher quality, and more reliable than its VHS predecessor.”
The DVS-70 comes with the scheduled programming preloaded , and includes an internal modem for remote technical support. The C.A.R.E. Channel® is distributed directly by Healing HealthCare Systems, as well as by Allen Technologies and TeleHealth Services, the largest provider of healthcare television products in the United States.
Founded in 1992, Healing HealthCare Systems is committed to developing media products and educational programs that assist healthcare organizations in creating and sustaining clinical environments that are directly supportive of healing and recovery.
