C.A.R.E. With Guided Imagery®

A supplement to The C.A.R.E. Channel, C.A.R.E. With Guided Imagery uses patients’ active imagination to bring about responses in their bodies that can accelerate the healing process.

Studies have shown that patients who use guided imagery relaxation prior to or during medical or surgical procedures experience significantly decreased anxiety and stress levels. Guided imagery has also been shown to reduce the amount of pain medication required, thus reducing side effects and decreasing recovery time.

Two noted professionals provide guided-relaxation processes for C.A.R.E. With Guided Imagery:

Diane Tusek, R.N., B.S.N., is a nurse practitioner, researcher, and founder of Guided Imagery, Inc. Her breakthrough studies and work with the Cleveland Clinic has promoted this technique to those in healthcare settings, optimizing treatment modalities with participation by patients in their own recovery. Her studies, which are listed in our Research Bibliography, provide validation and support for hospitals that are adding this feature to their C.A.R.E. Channel programming.

Harvey Zarren, M.D., F.A.C.C., is a Cardiologist, Founder, and Physician Director of The Healing Connection, a working practice at Union Hospital in Lynn, MA, which places people and the value of human interaction back into the center of the healing process.  He believes that when this happens, an opportunity is created in which all modalities of therapy can become tools.

The excercises on C.A.R.E. With Guided Imagery are specifically for the inpatient setting and are accessible to patients of diverse diagnoses and levels of acuity.  In addition to basic stress reduction and relaxation processes, special programs are also available for labor and delivery, pre-procedure, and pediatrics. Like The C.A.R.E. Channel, an evening program to promote sleep is included.
